A fresh shade of Optimism: Why Pantone's 2025 colour of the year isn't such a bland choice
Every December, when Pantone unveils its Colour of the Year, the internet reacts with a mixed reactions and spirited debate. Many of us who work in fashion spend so much time analysing and comparing these little chips, they’ve become so familiar like players in old board game.
This year’s chosen colour, I have to admit does feel a little unexciting at first. It’s off white which I suppose id just nothingness with a whimsical name. But perhaps it’s not such a bad choice ; It’s fresh and It’s hopeful. And most importantly, it’s open to interpretation, nuance and to becoming whatever we need it to be.
In todays culture we often gravitates toward extremes, so much so that a colour that offers space to breathe feels almost radical. So I chose shades of white, cream and subtle sage for my Graceful pillowcase and I’ve been pleasantly surprised how it’s gained as much affection as my bolder more vibrant designs.
Keep your eyes peeled for more pieces in this print coming in 2026 🤩
